THE STORY
“What do you say to the god of death?”
“Not today.”
Those words would push tiny Arya Stark down a steep rabbit hole, tumbling over obstacle after obstacle until she finally reached her ancestral home.
Arya, never a girl to conform to societal standards, survived alongside the cruelest of men on her journey of self discovery and maturity. Whether it be alongside her troubled companions on her way toward the Wall, or beside a grumbling old beast named the Hound, she made the most of her ailing travels. She quickly learned that to survive she needed to become strong.
Faced with the deaths of her father…and then her mother and brother, she soon sought revenge rather than sanctuary within Winterfell. She had a list comprised of people she wanted to kill. It was her motivation, her reason for suffering on her journey north.
The road from Kings Landing north was no place for a Lady. And she wasn’t a lady by any means. Far from it actually. Wielding ‘needle’, a treasured sword given to her by her half-brother Jon Snow, she slayed several men along the way, many of which harmed those she cared most about.
It wasn’t until Brienne of Tarth brutally wounded the Hound, that she freed herself from his mindnumbly dull company and traveled to Braavos. Given a token by Jaqen H’ghar to board a ship sailing to the city, it was there that her life drastically changed and her resolve strengthened.
Becoming a faceless man tested her in ways she couldn’t imagine. Fighting day in and out to lose who she was, to become nothing and let her tragic history fade away, was extremely difficult. Ironically, losing her sight and becoming a beggar on the streets of Braavos opened her eyes to how strong she actually was. She learned to fight in darkness and that skill was what saved her life when the people she’d trained with tried to claim it for themselves.
Becoming No One and leaving her true identity behind proved impossible, so she returned to Westeros and awakened her vendetta to seek revenge on those on ‘her list.’
Arya fleeted from place to place, camping where she could. She personally sought out and murdered the entire house of Frey, the conniving family that killed her mother and brother ruthlessly. With one score settled, she started her journey to Kings Landing and Cersei, the newly appointed Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Her purpose was clear and unwavering, yet when news that Jon had become the King of the North, she shifted her focus and hurriedly returned to Winterfell where she was reunited with her siblings Sansa and Bran.
Learning of Jon’s allegiance to the Dragon Queen, Daenerys Targaryen, came as a shock to her, but she was not as vocal as Sansa about her true feelings. When Jon returned to the north with his queen at his side, she was not filled with hatred and loathing as Sansa was. Instead she was completely overwhelmed by love and happiness when seeing Jon after so many years.
Finally her family was back together again. House Stark was stronger than ever. The north rallied together around them, a sight that would have made their parents proud.
Yet, they were now faced with another obstacle, one that could tear them apart once again. Winter had come and with it the Night King and his army. Arya is prepared for whatever comes next. She alone knows that she has survived much worse.
